Terms of use

This site is hosted by PubliVate Inc. on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Canada. This site provides Canadians with an opportunity to share ideas on how to address changes to the Fisheries Act.  Your ideas are important for the development of Canada’s approach.

You can browse this site without registering or providing personal information. However, to provide ideas or comments, you must register and provide:

  • first and last name
  • email address
  • postal code

You will also be asked whether you are submitting as an individual or on behalf of an organization:

  • business/industry
  • government
  • First Nations
  • Métis
  • Inuit
  • non-governmental organization
  • town hall
  • other

Fisheries and Oceans Canada Change Canada will use this information to:

  • understand who our participants are and to measure the success of the site 
  • help us improve the delivery of services and the design of future engagement initiative

PubliVate Inc. will not use the information you provide through this public engagement initiative for any secondary use.

Privacy Notice Statement

As per Personal Information Bank PSU 938, personal information is collected under the authority of the various Fisheries and Oceans legislation for the purpose of facilitating the sharing of knowledge, expertise, ideas and best practices in areas of common interest to Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Canadians, and stakeholders. The information you provide will be used to improve the delivery of services and the design of future engagement initiatives. The information will be made available to the public. The information may be also used or disclosed for program evaluation. Failure to provide this information will result in you not being able to participate in this public engagement process. You have the right to the correction of, access to, and protection of your personal information under the Privacy Act and to file a complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada over DFO’s handling of your information. 

Rules of engagement

Your ideas and comments will appear online, immediately, along with the first and last name that you enter when you register.

Ideas and comments will be reviewed. Those that do not respect the rules of engagement will be removed. Accounts acting contrary to these rules could be temporarily or permanently disabled.

Be respectful

Your post or comment must not contain:

  • profanity or discrimination on the basis of, for example, race, national or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, or sexual orientation
  • text written in all capital letters, which can be difficult to read and might be interpreted as yelling
  • personal attacks or defamatory statements
  • anything illegal
  • unintelligible or irrelevant messages
  • any other message that does not contribute meaningfully to the conversation

Be accountable

Your post or comment must be:

  • relevant to the discussions
  • in either English or French[1]
  • coherent and intelligible
  • original (it cannot be excerpted from another source)
  • without reference to any commercial activity such as advertising or publicity
  • considerate of your privacy and the privacy of others (do not include your phone number or email address in your post or comment)
